Trichloroisocyanuric acid (TCCA) is a powerful oxidizing and chlorinating agent. When mixed with ammonium salts, ammonia, or urea, it can produce explosive nitrogen trichloride (NCl₃). It may also release nitrogen trichloride when exposed to moisture or heat, and can easily ignite when it comes into contact with organic matter. TCCA chlorine has almost no corrosive effect on stainless steel, but it is more corrosive to brass than to carbon steel.
