Hydrochloric acid is an aqueous solution of hydrogen chloride which is widely used in industry. Hydrochloric acid is a colorless and transparent liquid with a strong pungent smell and high corrosion. Concentrated hydrochloric acid (mass fraction is about 37%) is extremely volatile, so after the container containing concentrated hydrochloric acid is opened, the chlorinated hydrogen will evaporate and combine with water vapor in the air to produce small hydrochloric acid droplets, resulting in acid mist above the bottle mouth.
Industrial Grade hydrochloric acid will be slightly yellow due to the impurity of ferric salt, Hydrochloric acid is miscible with water and ethanol, and hydrogen chloride is soluble in many organic solvents. Diluted hydrochloric acid gives off heat.
