Acrylic acid is an organic compound with the chemical formula C₃H₄O₂. It is a colorless liquid with a pungent odor and is miscible with water, ethanol, and diethyl ether. Acrylic acid exhibits high chemical reactivity and can easily polymerize when exposed to air. It can be reduced by hydrogenation to produce propionic acid, or undergo addition with hydrogen chloride to form 2-chloropropionic acid. It is primarily used in the production of acrylic resins.
