Glutaraldehyde's biocidal activity is dependent on pH:
Acidic solutions: Glutaraldehyde is not active in acidic solutions.
Alkaline solutions: Glutaraldehyde is most effective at a pH of 7.5–8.5. However, alkaline solutions only retain activity for about 14 days because the glutaraldehyde molecules polymerize.
Glutaraldehyde is used in many industries, including hospitals, medical offices, food processing facilities, and more.
