How does monoethanolamine (MEA) remove CO2?
When monoethanolamine (MEA) comes into contact with carbon dioxide, the carbon dioxide is dissolved in the ethanolamine and reacts with the ethanolamine to form ethyl bicarbonate:
CO2 + H2O + MEA → HCO3^- + MEA+ + OH^-
