Properties
1,3-Butadiene is the organic compound with the formula (CH2=CH)2. It is a colorless gas that is easily condensed to a liquid. It is important industrially as a precursor to synthetic rubber. The molecule can be viewed as the union of two vinyl groups. It is the simplest conjugated diene.

Product Application
- Most butadiene is used to make synthetic rubbers for the manufacture of tyres, grommets and elastic bands.
- Smaller amounts of butadiene are used to make adiponitrile, a precursor to some nylons.
- Butadiene is used to make the solvent sulfolane.
- Butadiene is also useful in the synthesis of cycloalkanes and cycloalkenes, as it reacts with double and triple carbon-carbon bonds through Diels-Alder reactions.
STORAGE
Store in a cool and ventilated warehouse. Keep away from kindling and heat source. The warehouse temperature should not exceed 30 ºC. It shall be stored separately from oxidants, halogens, etc., and shall not be mixed. Explosion proof lighting and ventilation facilities shall be adopted. It is prohibited to use mechanical equipment and tools that are easy to generate sparks. The storage area shall be equipped with leakage emergency treatment equipment.
