Cyclohexanone (CAS 108-94-1), also known as oxocyclohexane or cyclohexyl ketone, is an industrial ketone solvent with molecular formula C₆H₁₀O. At room temperature it is a colorless oily liquid with a characteristic earthy ketone odor, purity ≥99.8% (GC), density 0.946–0.947 g/cm³ at 20°C, and a distillation range of 153–157°C.

Its principal industrial applications fall into two categories: as a process solvent in alkyd, epoxy, and vinyl coating systems, solvent-based adhesives, gravure and packaging inks, and rubber compounding; and as a chemical intermediate in the production of caprolactam and adipic acid-the respective monomers for Nylon 6 and Nylon 66. Applications of Cyclohexanone Solvent

Paints and Coatings
Cyclohexanone is specified as a primary solvent in nitrocellulose lacquers, vinyl resin coatings, and acrylic systems. Adhesives and Sealants
In solvent-based adhesive formulations, cyclohexanone dissolves PVC, polychloroprene, and polyurethane matrices at room temperature without requiring elevated process temperatures. Cyclohexanone serves as a building block in the synthesis of selected pharmaceutical intermediates, including precursors to antiepileptic compounds.
