Naphtha, a light oil derived from crude oil or other raw materials, is commonly known as chemical light alkylate. It serves as a key chemical raw material in various industries. Naphtha's distillation range can vary depending on its intended use. According to Chinese standards, the initial boiling point is typically around 220°C.

When used as a feedstock for ethylene production through cracking, the distillate between 70°C and 145°C is classified as light naphtha. For producing aromatics or high-octane gasoline, the fraction between 70°C and 180°C is considered regular naphtha. When employed as a solvent, it is referred to as solvent naphtha. Additionally, aromatic solvents derived from coal tar are also known as naphtha or solvent naphtha.

Naphtha is categorized into light and heavy naphtha and belongs to the hydrocarbon family. It can be obtained from various organic raw materials, such as gasoline, kerosene, asphalt, and benzene.
