Products Description
Dithiothreitol (DTT) is an organosulfur compound with the formula (CH(OH)CH 2SH) 2. A colorless compound, it is classified as a dithiol and a diol. DTT is redox reagent also known as Cleland's reagent, after W. Wallace Cleland. The reagent is commonly used in its racemic form.
Application
One of the uses of Dithiothreitol is as a reducing agent and deprotecting agent for thiolated DNA. The terminal sulfur atoms of thiolated DNA tend to form dimers in solution, especially in the presence of oxygen. This dimerization greatly reduces the efficiency of some coupling reaction experiments (such as the fixation of DNA in a biosensor); adding DTT to the DNA solution and removing it after a period of reaction can reduce the dimerization of DNA
