• It is extremely flammable, its vapour and air can form explosive mixtures. It is easy to burn and explode when meet open fire and high heat. It can react strongly with oxidant and even cause combustion.

Uses
N-Pentane can be used as anaesthetics, solvents, cryogenic thermometers, artificial ice, pentanol, isopentane and so on.

 

Safety
High concentrations of n-pentane can cause mild irritation of the eyes and respiratory mucous membranes and anaesthesia, or even loss of consciousness. Staff should be well protected and the working environment should be well ventilated. In case of fire, it can be put out by foam, dry powder, carbon dioxide, sand and soil, and it is ineffective to put out fire with water.
