Manganese carbonate is a rose-colored triangular crystal rhombohedron or amorphous bright white brown powder. It is stable in dry air and easily oxidized in wet conditions to form manganese trioxide and gradually turns brown-black. It is soluble in dilute inorganic acids, slightly soluble in ordinary organic acids, and insoluble in liquid ammonia. It is almost insoluble in water, but slightly soluble in water containing CO2. It begins to decompose into carbon dioxide and manganese oxide (Mr12+) when heated to 100°C. It hydrolyzes when it is azeotropic with water.
