Ichthammol(Ammonium Ichthosulfonate) is a mixture of vegetable oils (soybean oil, tung oil, corn oil, etc.), sulfurized, sulfonated, and then reacted with ammonia. It contains organic sulfur (S) not less than 5.5% and ammonia (NH3) not less than 2.5%.
Ichthammol is a brownish-black, viscous liquid with a peculiar odor, dissolved in water.
Uses:
Ichthammol (Ammonium Ichthosulfonate) is a pharmaceutical ingredient used in the treatment of dermatological conditions and its main uses include anti-inflammatory, decongestive, and inhibitory secretion.
It has a mild stimulating anti-inflammatory and antiseptic action. It is often used in the treatment of skin disorders such as skin inflammation, boils, and acne blisters. Ichthammol is available in topical form, usually as an ointment, such as 10% ichthyolite ointment, which is applied twice daily to the affected area.
