What is acetic acid (GAA CAS 64-19-7) used for in rubber industry?

Acetic Acid (GAA CAS 64-19-7) Properties

Acetic Acid (GAA CAS 64-19-7) is a colorless, transparent liquid. It is a key component of vinegar and a typical fatty acid, possessing a pungent, sour taste. The relative density of its anhydrous form is 1.049 (at 20°C), with a boiling point of 118°C, a melting point of 16.604°C, a flash point (open cup) of 57°C, an autoignition temperature of 427°C, and a refractive index of 1.3716 (at 20°C).

Acetic Acid (GAA CAS 64-19-7) is a weak acid but reacts with alkalis to form acetates. It also undergoes esterification with alcohols to produce various esters. It is miscible with water, ethanol, diethyl ether, glycerol, and benzene, but insoluble in carbon disulfide.

The pH of aqueous acetic acid solutions is 2.4 at 6% concentration and 2.9 at 0.6%. Acetic acid vapors are highly flammable, with an explosive range in air of 4%-17%. It is non-toxic at low concentrations but highly corrosive at high concentrations. Ordinary GAA has a content of approximately 36%. It exhibits the general properties of saturated fatty acids, reacting with certain metals, metal oxides, and hydroxides to form salts; it also undergoes esterification reactions with alcohols.
