Uses
Thionyl Chloride Or Thionyl Dichloride is used as a chlorinating agent in organic synthesis, such as the chlorination of hydroxyl alcohols, the chlorination of carboxylic acids, the chlorination of acid anhydrides, the chlorine substitution of organic sulfonic acids or nitro compounds. Manufacture of acyl chlorides. Manufacture of pharmaceutical intermediates, such as anthelmintic, odorless synthroid. Also used as dehydrating agent and solvent.
