What is manganese carbonate?
Manganese carbonate is a compound with the chemical formula MnCO₃. Manganese carbonate occurs naturally as the mineral rhodochrosite but it is typically produced industrially.

What is manganese carbonate used for?
Manganese carbonate is widely used as an additive to plant fertilizers to cure manganese-deficient crops. It is also used in health foods, in ceramics as a glaze colorant and flux, and in concrete stains. It is used in medicine as a hematinic.

Is manganese carbonate soluble in water?
Manganese carbonate is sparingly soluble in water.
It has only limited solubility in water, meaning only a small amount can dissolve to form a solution.
What happens when manganese carbonate is heated?
When manganese carbonate (MnCO₃) is heated, it decomposes to form manganese oxide (MnO) and carbon dioxide (CO₂).
The chemical reaction can be represented as follows:
MnCO₃ → MnO + CO₂.
As the temperature rises, the carbonate compound breaks down, releasing carbon dioxide gas and leaving behind manganese oxide. Manganese oxide is a black or brownish-black solid depending on its form.
