Xylene, a colorless, transparent and aromatic liquid formed by substituting two benzene - ring hydrogen atoms with methyl groups, having a boiling point of 137 - 140 ºC and three isomers (o - xylene, m - xylene, p - xylene), is industrially a mixture including these isomers and ethyl benzene, with purified grades (superior and first grade based on 3 ºC and 5 ºC distillation ranges), miscible with ethanol, chloroform or ether but insoluble in water, and widely used in organic solvents, synthetic medicine, coatings, resins, dyes and pesticides.

Application of Xylene

• As a solvent for coating, resin, dye, ink and other industries;
• Used as synthetic monomer in pharmaceutical, pesticide and other organic chemical industry;
• Can be used as aviation gasoline additive
